4S: Sustainable & Social Suppliers' Stories
TSUNO
This story will honour TSUNO a women led, social & circular enterprise which has turned a monthly reality into a beautiful opportunity.
Each month something natural happens in womens’ bodies, and this month you could use this moment to be more sustainable and empower other women.
What is TSUNO?
TSUNO is a social enterprise that creates soft sanitary pads and tampons from sustainable sources.
Their pads are created from bamboo and corn fibre, and wrapped in biodegradable sleeves that are packaged in recyclable cardboard boxes. Bamboo is one of the most eco-friendly and sustainable fibres, naturally resistant to pests, making it an ideal material for sanitary pads. Their tampons are made from certified organic cotton, which avoids the use of pesticides, fertilisers and unsustainable farming practices.
Socially Committed
TSUNO is a company committed to using periods to empower women across the globe. On top of their innovative production process, TSUNO donates half of its profits to support women through education and menstrual hygiene support.
TSUNO’s support is wide-reaching, from emerging countries in Africa, like Uganda and Sierra Leone, to many more in Asia and the Pacific region through partnerships with organisations like One Girl and the International Women’s Development Agency. Women and girls in these countries don’t always have access to menstrual hygiene products and often stop attending school during their periods.
TSUNO’s social mission is to support these ladies in pursuing an education as a driver out of extreme poverty.
